GTI Munsell neutral gray paint creates a chromatically neutral surround for judging color. It is a water-reducible vinyl latex for graphic arts, photography, textiles and imaging. ISO 3664:2009 specifies it for viewing areas. However, standard grays often shift in hue under different lights. This paint has a spectrally flat response, so it adds no color bias.

Why use GTI Munsell neutral gray paint?

A neutral gray is not simply a black and white mix. Instead, it contains roughly equal amounts of every spectrum color. In contrast, a non-neutral gray has unequal amounts. As a result, it causes a cold or warm shift under different lighting.

• It removes simultaneous color contrast. For example, a red sample looks orange on a blue background but purple on a yellow one. Your eye needs a neutral surround to see color accurately.
• It prevents color pollution. When D50 or D65 light bounces off colored walls, it no longer matches the standard. Neutral gray surfaces around the viewing area stop this.

Choose N8, N7 or N5 neutral gray paint

• Standard Gray Neutral 8 (N8): for color viewing areas in the graphic arts and photographic industries.
• Standard Gray Neutral 7 (N7): a slightly darker tone for paints, plastics, textiles and other non-graphics industries.
• Standard Gray Neutral 5 (N5): an approximately 18% gray, used for many imaging applications.

Applying GTI Munsell neutral gray paint

This air-drying paint is for interior use. First, prepare the walls with any latex primer. Then apply the paint by brush, roller or spray gun. Because one gallon covers about 450 square feet, a single can handles most booth rooms.
